TE PŪTAKE (PURPOSE)

The purpose of this marae-based noho is to bring Te Rarawa rangatahi together, providing a space for reconnecting with their various Te Rarawa marae, hapu & rich culture, through whakawhanaungatanga & encouraging kaitiakitanga roles in our Te Rarawa communities.

Rangatahi who have an interest in science, environmental sustainability, engineering, maths, technology & enterprise will get to carry out some environmental action whilst learning about a number of other environmental kaupapa.

The noho will include a range of outdoor hands-on learning activities providing genuine experiential learning and engagement in & for our local environments as a ‘living laboratory’ Pūtaiao approach.  This is where science concepts are already embedded in matauranga Māori, te reo me ōna tikanga, making education more meaningful, to help rangatahi Māori reclaim science in Te Rarawa & Te Hiku.

We hope to familiarise them with environmental initiatives that Te Rarawa is promoting, lift their understanding of kaitiakitanga, and show them how they might be able to contribute to their iwi and hapu in the future. We are solution-focused on addressing the deficit numbers of Maori into these fields of expertise and hope to increase the number of our young Maori people pursuing careers in the sciences, environmental sustainability, technology, and business.

RE-IGNITING THE LIGHT FOR LIFELONG LEARNING!
